Cobra & Fidlock Collar

We offer two types of AustriAlpin COBRA® buckle: (1) AustriAlpin COBRA® PRO QUICK RELEASE buckle (metal), and (2) AustriAlpin COBRA® NG QUICK RELEASE buckle (plastic).

The AustriAlpin COBRA® PRO QUICK RELEASE buckle (metal) is a premium, patented buckle designed for the highest levels of reliability in load-bearing applications. It is made in Austria (in an ISO-certified facility) primarily from high-grade aluminium alloy, with solid brass release clips and stainless steel components. Key functional features of this buckle include:

• Dual-clip release only
• Cannot open under load
• Positive locking with an audible click
• High flexibility when closed
• Dirt and ice resistant design.

The AustriAlpin COBRA® NG QUICK RELEASE buckle (plastic) is a polymer buckle with a distinctive triple lock system. It is made from high-strength polymer injection-molded plastic. Key functional features of this buckle include:

• Triple lock mechanism
• Form-fitting interlock
• Cannot open under load
• Light weight and waterproof.

The FIDLOCK® buckle features a German magnetic-mechanical fastening system. The system combines neodymium magnets (for automatic alignment and easy closing) with a precision mechanical lock that provides the actual security.

When both ends of the buckle are brought close together, the magnets snap together and engage the mechanical lock. Opening the buckle then requires a deliberate, specific motion that differs from the closing action (i.e. pulling the string tab located on the buckle cover). This mechanism makes for a super strong and reliable buckles that can be easily operated with one hand.

Note: if the string gets caught on something and pulled, this could open the buckle.

Yes, the Cobra & Fidlock Dog Collar is made from BioThane® strapping, which is fully waterproof. BioThane® does not absorb water, dries almost instantly and resists mould and mildew. So, rivers, lakes, rain and muddy puddles are no problem! Simply rinse the collar off in warm soapy water and it'll be good as new.

The sea is a different story, and it comes down to the hardware. Salt water is highly corrosive to most metals, so for a dog that swims in the sea, we recommend choosing the plastic Cobra buckle (which is paired with stainless steel). Metal Cobra and Fidlock buckles are fine for occasional splashes and wet walks but not for regular exposure to salt water.

Whichever you choose, be sure to rinse the collar with fresh water and soap after every beach visit. Please note that seawater damage on hardware not recommended for the sea is not covered by the Led & Collared® Gear Guarantee.

Yes, the Cobra & Fidlock Dog Collar can be personalised with a Scrag Tag, an engraved tag attached directly onto the collar, for an extra $16. Just choose 'Personalise' when you're customising your collar.

The Scrag Tag is both safe and unique in that it does not dangle, snag, jingle or fall off. So you can avoid the annoyance jingling noises and rest easy in the knowledge that your dog's details will always be attached to them!

You can choose to have the tag engraved with any text or number: your dog's name, your phone number, their council registration number, an agility competition number, or a short message such as 'anxious' or 'do not feed'. You can even add a cute graphic.

Choose between a (1) Riveted Scrag Tag - permanently fixed with rivets, with space for two lines of text; or a (1) Slide-On Scrag Tag - attached with a durable plastic sleeve, with space for three lines of text. Tags come in acrylic or T316 stainless steel. A personalised collar is still fully waterproof and stink-proof.
